Good Morning from the RNLI
The Education Team at the RNLI have been unable to continue with our normal Water Safety
Education activity in schools and youth groups across the UK, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We do however
realise that as families prepare for the summer months, people will be heading to the
beaches, inland waters, and the coastline to enjoy the sun. Therefore at this time, our key water safety messages are more important than
ever.
As you are no doubt aware of the incident that recently happened on Ogmore beach that has had national press coverage and involved the call out of our Porthcawl lifeboat to help 45 people that were cut off by the incoming tide.
Due to covid 19 our roll out of lifeguards beaches was paused in March, initially there was a plan to get 70 beaches in the UK covered , thankfully we now have plans to cover 70% of the beaches that we would normally cover yearly. Our lifeboat stations have managed to stay operational during the covid situation, but during the heatwave on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th June the coastguard coordinated 500 resusces across the UK. Over those two days, of which resulted in 234 taskings for our lifeboat, and very busy days for the beaches that we have covered.
With the current progress and changes to the lockdown, changes to holiday plans, many families will be looking at staycations, and the british waters both coastal and inland are very different to some european waters.
As part of our ongoing water safety education work this year we are asking your school to partner with us in saving lives by:
1. Attached is a primary pack that can be used in the classrooms to get the water safety message out over the next few weeks before the summer holidays, which includes resources and guidance notes
2. In the primary pack there is a key message poster, if it is possible please could that be included in a newsletter and or shared on your social media to promote this important message.
3. Sending out the attached letter to parents that links to our water safety message.
4. Share these videos via your home learning portals which cover our 4 main messages.

Episode 3 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2z17EZTfkGQ

I can also offer virtual sessions via teams and zoom over the next few weeks, if you would be interested in this please don't hesitate to contact me and I will make arrangements to fit in with your requirements.
I do hope you can support us in these challenging times to keep our children safe this summer.
Cricket!
We have launched a primary schools’ competition that children can do with parents in the garden, or at school within their hub.
We think it helps nicely with skills development and gets them active.
It is all online and easy to access via our website.
The link is here and hope you are able to share across your network!
