The school and Governing body recognise that children have varying needs in their stages of learning, from the Nursery class upwards, which, in turn, requires early recognition of difficulties and needs (by class teacher or parent) and preparation of resources to meet those needs.
The policy of the Governing Body and the school reflects the structure of provision for pupils with special educational needs and follows the requirements of the "Code of Practice" [Bridgend Model] in meeting those objectives.
The school has a co-ordinator for Additional Learning Needs (ALNco) [also known as -Special Educational Needs (SENCO) ] supported by a team of three senior core subject teachers to whom contact will be made by class teachers, in the first instance, for support and advice.
Pupils who may have specific learning difficulties, or who need extra help overall in language (English or Welsh) are catered for within their year groups with support from our Language Development teacher. Where the need arises, subject to discussion and consent of parents, the Educational Psychologist can be called in for further guidance. Help and guidance of a more specific nature is also available from the SEN Advisory Service and Behavioural Support Service.
All children with Special Educational Needs have access to a full curriculum, including any child who may carry a Statement of Educational Needs; in such cases, we work closely with pupils, parents and the L.A. Special Needs Advisory Service to ensure that the child's learning is directed and managed in the best possible way.
The school's Special Educational Needs policy is available below and on our Policies Page.
The physical layout of the school does not allow wheelchair access to classrooms and play areas. The Access and Inclusion team at BCBC are trying to make our site more user-friendly for pupils, staff, parents and visitors with additional needs.
Rydym yn cydnabod bod gan nifer helaeth o blant anghenion arbennig yn ystod eu gyrfa trwy'r ysgol, a'n dyletswydd yw i ni gwrdd â'r anghenion hynny mor brydlon ac mor effeithiol ag sy'n bosibl o fewn adnoddau'r ysgol. Mae polisi'r Corff Llywodraethol a'r ysgol yn adlewyrchu strwythur y ddarpariaeth honno, sydd, hefyd, yn ymateb i Restr Argymhellion Anghenion Arbennig Bwrdeistref Sirol Pen-y-bont.
Mae Cydlynydd Anghenion Arbennig o fewn yr ysgol, gyda chymorth cydlynwyr y pynciau Craidd yn ddolen-gyswllt i'r athrawon yn y lle cyntaf. Cawn alw ar gymorth yr athro Datblygu Iaith i gynorthwyo gyda phlant ag anghenion arbennig (yn Gymraeg ac yn Saesneg). Mewn achosion eraill, yn dilyn trafodaeth a chaniatâd y rhieni, galwn ar Seicolegydd Addysgiadol y sir i'n cynorthwyo, ynghyd a chymorth staff Gwasanaethau Ymgynghorol Anghenion Arbennig y sir. Nid yw safle'r ysgol yn addas ar gyfer disgyblion mewn cadeiriau olwyn.
Mae gan bob disgybl gydag Anghenion Addysgol Arbennig yr hawl i gwricwlwm llawn, gan gynnwys plant a Datganiad Anghenion Addysgol Arbennig. Mewn achosion tebyg, gofynnwn am gydweithrediad rhieni, plant a swyddogion Gwasanaeth Anghenion Arbennig Pen-y-bont er mwyn i'r plentyn elwa yn y ffordd fwyaf effeithiol.
Gellid wneud cais i’r Pennaeth er mwyn gweld copi o bolisi Anghenion Arbennig yr ysgol.
